Lovers

I held you
like lovers often do
our bodies warm with afternoon sun
and our dangled feet cool from the lake
we were completely alone
but never had we felt so alive
the forest spoke
in a language only lovers hear
stillness echoed by distant birds
and the wind through the pines
you threw a stone in the water
and it rippled out in a circle
and we knew that was our love
ever-expanding
never-ending
perfection
time disappeared like the stone
and a million years passed
on that autumn afternoon
and the forest laughed
for it knew we were true lovers
lost in one another
