The Springtime Heart

This body must be buried
This soft skin is to dry like ash
Yet let this body which once housed my soul
Be soil for new flowers to bloom

These eyes must forever close
All one does see is to turn black
Yet let this body which once housed my soul
Be soil for new flowers to bloom

This tender heart must stop
The loyal beating of my chest must rest
Yet let this body which once housed my soul
Be soil for new flowers to bloom

All that I have said or not said
Will return to the silence before I was
Yet let this body which once housed my soul
Be soil for new flowers to bloom

These hands warm with giving
Must run cold like nature’s changing seasons
Yet let this body which once housed my soul
Be soil for new flowers to bloom

For my soul will live on in the flowers
And the flowers will give to the bees
And the bees will live in the trees
And the trees will breathe into all

And so
The body that housed this soul must rust
And all five senses will return to stardust
But not the Soul, not the springtime Soul

That flowers forever in all of us
